The most populous metropolitan area in Japan, urban Tokyo is home to more than 35 million japanese. The population density in the Tokyo 23-ward area (8.5 million pop.) is similar to the one in New York City at about 13,000 persons per square kilometer, while the population density in the Tokyo suburbs is moderate at 1,550 persons per square kilometer.

  • Hiroo, Roppongi, Azabu-Juban, Aoyama (Minato-ku)
  • Shimokitazawa, Seijogakuenmae, Futako Tamagawa,
    Yoga (Setagaya-ku)
  • Omotesando, Yoyogi, Shibuya, Ebisu (Shibuya-ku)
  • Jiyugaoka, Denyenchofu (Meguro-ku)
  • Sendagi, Nezu (Bunkyo-ku)

Some middle-class residential areas with good urbanism:
