Yanaka Pictures

Yanaka is located in Taito-ku in-between Nezu(pics) and Nippori Station. It is most famous for its Aizomegawa river and its Yanakareien (Yanaka cemetery), one of the three most popular cemeteries in Tokyo (the other two being Aoyama Cemetery and Tama cemetery).

Prior to the Meiji era, it was a temple called Tenoji. Since the year Meiji 7, the temple has been transformed into a cemetery and has been renamed "Yanakareien". The 15th shogun of the Togukawa period is buried here (Togukawa Yoshinobu) as well as Hatoyama Itchiro (famous politician from Tokyo),  some famous actors, and novellists. How to get to Yanaka Neighborhood


Get off at Nezu Station or Sendagi Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, or at Nippori Station on the JR Yamanote Line.

Yanaka Ginza Neighborhood by Parent. Old shopping street in Yanaka. Many shopping districts in Japan are named Ginza - in reference to the famous Ginza shopping district in Chuo-ku.
