Yasukuni Shrine Pictures

The Yasukuni shrine is dedicated to the spirits of those who died for Japan during or after the Meiji revolution. Since the 1970s, 14 class-A war criminals from WW2 have been allowed to be enshrined here, causing political friction with Japan's neighbors. Since then, the japanese emperor has refused to visit the shrine.

Another interesting anecdote: In October 2005 the government of Japan finally returned the Bukgwan Victory Monument to Korea -- a memorial stele erected in 1707 to commemorate the Korean victory in the Imjin Wars against the Bakufu.
